LESTER 24 ~ We’re back with our annual exhibition companion, Lester 24—a beautiful celebration of this year’s artists and the portraiture art form, co-published with Western Australian imprint Mess Books. Lester 24 offers a glimpse into the making of this year’s 40 artworks, drawing together written insights, working sketches and studies, and studio scenes from the artists behind them; as well as original writing and artist conversations.

The introduction to this year’s book is penned by judge and CEO of the Western Australian Museum, Alec Coles OBE, who opens with The Picture of Dorian Gray, “I am jealous of the portrait you have painted of me. Why should it keep what I must lose?” Plus, local curator, Annika Kristensen explores the relevance of portraiture in today’s society.
